This is my story, feelings, and experiences while I’m training for my first half-marathon. I’ve been running for about a year-and-a-half. Before that I had done no exercise so I wasn’t very prepared physically. What made me start running? I figured it was about time to do something for my health. I was laid off and had too much time on my hands and I thought this was a good time to start taking care of my body while I was looking for a new job.
I began by walking but then I signed up for a 5K race to raise money for an organization (Kitten Rescue Los Angeles) that I do volunteer work for. I didn’t want to just walk the race, so I started using a Couch To 5K app to help me run at least part of the race. Working toward that goal really gave me momentum to run more often, longer and faster. By the end of 2016 I had run about 5 5K races. My PR is 30:33. I still want to break 30!
So why a half-marathon now? I’m turning 50 and I think this is a good way to welcome it. I don’t feel 50, and I don’t think I look 50, so a half marathon will be something that I will use to prove to myself that I can accomplish this physical goal.
I created this blog more for myself than for anyone else. If you happen to read this, I hope you enjoy my journey.
